Amelanchier canadensis. A tall bush or small understory tree with the first spring blossoms, followed by tasty red and purple fruits. About 8-10 feet tall.
The early spring blossoms make it an important food source for bees and butterflies. It is also a host plant for the Viceroy Butterfly and Canadian Swallow Tail Butterfly.
Many species of birds as well as small mammals eat the berries.
