Witch Hazel

Called "American" or "Common" witch hazel, Hamamelis virginiana. Bright yellow fragrant flowers. Fall-blooming shade tolerant shub native to eastern North America.  The seed capsules look like flowers and provide interest in the winter. Grows up to 15 ft tall. prefers moist to well drained slightly acidic soil. 

Rough grouse enjoy the seeds, and white-tailed deer will browse on the foliage.
