American hazelnut

Corylus americana. Native to northeastern United States. Edible easy to crack nuts. Makes a great hedge or windbreaker, averaging 9-12 feet tall. Easy to grow. Need at least two for pollination. Plant 4-8 feet apart.

Attracts butterflies. Nuts are eaten by many birds and mammals including foxes and bears.
