Acer rubrum. The iconic Red Maple is probably best known for its gorgeous crimson leaves every fall. The sugar content in red maples can sometimes be just as good as sugar maples, and many people tap them during sugaring season.  Vermont wouldn't be the same without this species. Up to 60 feet tall. 

Red maple leaves are an important food source for many caterpillars that turn into showy moths, such as cecropia and rosy maple moth. Also important tree for birds and for bees.
