Beaked Hazelnut

Corylus cornuta. Wonderful cold hardy and disease resistant native shrub that with time can grow into a nice understory thicket, providing habitat for wildlife as well as food. Squirrels and chipmunks will thank you for planting these, as will warblers.

The hazelnuts are enclosed in an interesting husk that resembles a birds beak. Beaked hazelnut also provides interest with its tiny but bright magenta female flowers and male catkins.

Purchase at least two for sufficient pollination.
